Dr. Haddad:
'What I tell you is one thing,
listen to what other people say':

- Monica: I have a new lease on life

This impression of paranoia was all around me and I couldn’t seem to shake it. I was sure my co-workers were making lunch and after-work plans that didn’t include me, when I had always been invited along before. Whenever I moseyed into a conversation, they appeared to quickly excuse themselves. Why, all of a sudden, were they evading me? I hadn’t done anything wrong from what I could tell.

This paranoia was soon substantiated when I observed that my friends were doing the exact same thing. They stopped asking me to dinners & events and I knew they were devising excuses to not see me. At last, I threatened my best friend for the truth and the truth is what she gave me. My crabbiness, my negativity, my irritation – they were frustrating everyone. Everyone wanted to avoid me; no one wanted to be around me. This problem was more substantial than I originally anticipated. I knew lack of sleep was affecting my focus and commitment at work but I had no idea the effect it was playing in my personal life.

After visiting Dr. Haddad, I feel like I have a brand new lease on life. I now feel like I can take on the world. Not only am I , at last able to sleep through the night, I now feel like I have an entirely new personality. I have jurisdiction over my emotions once again. And I am happy to report that these days my emotions are tremendously blissful, positive and cheerful. Now, I have tolerance and acceptance for others instead of focusing on how I am going to make it through an additional sleep-deprived day. The best part? No one is side-stepping me anymore. My family, friends and co-workers want to be around me again.

- Joseph: I never would have imagined that my dentist could solve my sleep problems.

“Ahhh – I slept like a baby!.” I could never identify with that statement. I would hear someone say that and think – what are they talking about? I wanted to know. What did it feel like to wake up totally rejuvenated and invigorated in the morning? How did it feel to go to bed and actually sleep through the entire night?

Thinking back as far as I could remember, I couldn’t candidly say the last time I woke up fully eager, ready to take on the day. Whether I slept for 5 or 9 hours, my initial thought in the morning was always “when can I go back to bed?” I was always, irrefutably, unconditionally exhausted in the morning. It was an overwhelming feeling that stayed with me all day. It became so habitual that it was soon just my natural state-of-being.

I was visiting Dr. Haddad for my scheduled dental check-up when she asked about my overall health. I was telling her how worn out I was. She listened closely and immediately presented some treatment options and promising solutions. I never would have imagined that my dentist could solve my sleep problems. Never. Following my treatment, I can now hardly believe how long I existed in my sleep deprived state. Thinking back to how bushed I was, it’s annoying. I am forever grateful – thank you Dr. Haddad.

- Elisha: I was angry and we both were sleep deprived

When I first met Ron, I thought he was the ideal man. Rapidly, our relationship developed from casual dating to falling in love to getting married. Jointly, we created a splendid life - travelling the globe, welcoming our two wonderful children, creating our life together.

At the on-set of our marriage, Ron was a sporadic snorer. It was nothing disturbing or unusual. However, over the course of a few years, his snoring became gradually worse. We measured our options. We dropped in on sleep centers, bought over-the-counter solutions, attempted homemade remedies, altered our sleep environment. We tried the whole lot. Ron’s snoring became such a barrier between us that I often found myself considering our marital options.

More and more, I became increasingly bitter and I was beginning to begrudge our relationship. I was angry because of my sleep deprivation and both of us were petulant and cantankerous. It wasn’t long before we began taking out our disappointments on one another. I felt discouraged and didn’t know what else to do.

At my next visit, I just happened to reference the snoring issue to Dr. Haddad. She proposed an appointment to see Ron the following week. Success! One visit was all it took for Ron to recognize the cause of his snoring and to establish treatment options that were suitable for him. Now we spend a lot less time talking about our marital problems and a lot more time dedicated to one another.

- Sheri: Sleepless in . . . Oregon

I could tell you, with specific detail about every infomercial ever made and every old black-and-white movie ever produced. What Humphrey Bogart whispered to Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca. With speed and precision, which food chopper chops, dices and slices the fastest and with the most ease. I could detail vacuum cleaners that do more than clean your floors. Every night, all night, I was awake. And the television was my only companionship.

Not only was television my only company but it was very rapidly becoming my lone friend. Lack of sleep was utterly changing my personality and my friends and family no longer wanted to be around me. I was crabby and depressed and not much fun to be around. My sleep disorder was impinging on more than my night’s. It was upsetting my relationships, my personality and my life!

Getting to sleep was so challenging for me. I did everything I could think of from taking sleeping pills to formulating home remedies to calling on my doctor. Nothing was improving the fatiguing and maddening cycle of insomnia.

After talking with Dr. Haddad, the difference in my life is beyond explanation. She not only identified with my exasperation but she understood with such kindness and consideration. She offered explanations and more notably – solutions! My sleepless nights are a thing of the past. Now there is only sleeping in Oregon!

- Darren: My life was potentially saved by my dentist

From as far back as I could recollect, I have had a snoring predicament. Even back in my College days I was persistently ragged by my roommates and teammates. The nickname of “Buzz” stuck all through college and to this day, some long-standing cronies still refer to me as that.

I met, fell in love and married the lovely Carolyn a couple years after college. From the beginning she was aware that I was a snorer and we had many debates around the subject. We’d talk about ‘treatments’ to bring my snoring to an end. We’d talk about how the disruptions in sleep were affecting our lives and where I should go for help. The discussions were nonstop and never led to a answer.

One night, Carolyn unexpectedly shook me awake. She exclaimed that my breathing has stopped and she was so terrified that she was shaking. We decided right then and there that we had to explore this more earnestly. There was something more going on than a straightforward snoring issue. Because that incident had left her so traumatized, she began scrutinizing my breathing during the night. She was astonished to see the regularity of which I would stop breathing almost each and every night.

When Dr. Haddad remarked on how worn-out I looked at a standard check-up, I revealed what was happening. Straight away she identified the problem. She instinctively knew I was suffering from sleep apnea and she said if I left it untreated, it could progress into a potentially fatal disorder. She pointed out that chronic snoring can be a pre-cursor to sleep apnea but she assured me she had treatment options and she promptly recommended one that worked for me. Now, I can happily say my snoring has all but completely stopped and my sleep apnea is under control. I still find it ironic that I visited Dr. Haddad for a routine hygiene appointment and she potentially saved my life.
